We donate to the industries we insure. In addition to raising money, we volunteer off-site several times throughout the year. Some of the organizations we have worked with include Casa de Amparo, The Ronald McDonald House, and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

Preferred recognizes nine paid holidays and one floating holiday for its employees in addition to time off for jury duty, illness, and bereavement leave. The business recognizes the benefit of employee loyalty and has developed a schedule of vacation day accruals based upon the length of each employee’s tenure with the company.

  • The health of our employees is a top priority at Preferred. We take the time to make sure that wellness opportunities are available so that our teammates are happy, satisfied, and are able to perform at their best.
  • Fresh fruit is delivered daily and is available in our breakroom at any hour of the day.
  • Preferred participates in the annual San Diego Corporate Dash, a 5K Fun Run that brings together businesses from all over the city.
  • Our building has an on-site gym that is free to employees. Circuit Training classes are also provided to employees free of charge on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Our Wellness Room features a Massage Chair that is available for employees to reserve in 20 minute increments. This room also serves as a dedicated quiet space for breaks, meditation, and reflection.

  • We have a section in our Employee Portal where team members can give “Kudos” and thank deserving employees for a job well done. For those who specifically demonstrate “above and beyond” behavior, we award Berkley Owl Bucks for going “the extra mile”. Depending upon the total of accumulated Berkley Owl Bucks, employees can “purchase” rewards, such as a Sleep-In Day or adding an extra hour to lunch for “Recess”. These programs both include a posted shout-out throughout the business for all to see.
  • On-the-Spot Bonuses are available to recognize employees who have done an extraordinary job on a project, task or innovation that either generates new revenue or decreases expenses.

Underwriting

Underwriters play the crucial role of evaluating insurance applications and determining how much risk to injury and illness is involved as well as how much an applicant will pay in premiums. It is a job that requires a combination of strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

Risk Management

Risk Advisors evaluate workplace hazards and analyze jobs and tasks to determine risks and risk levels. They will also train employees on proper safety procedures and equipment use to minimize the risk of injury.

Claims Management

Claims management is an excellent field offering numerous career opportunities. Our claims experts help injured or ill employees during what can be difficult times in their lives. They are key to allowing us to live by getting injured or ill employees “back to work and back to life”.

Sales & Marketing

Preferred’s Sales & Marketing team members partner with insurance brokers to bring the best combination of products, services and pricing to customers and prospects. Like underwriters, they require strong relationship-building skills as well as solid business planning and analytical expertise.
